Terra preta nova*

One of the aspects of interest in the new dark earth is to be considered among the most fertile soils in the world. Research has shown that these soils have a high availability of nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, zinc, manganese, phosphorus and carbon, and also maintain their fertility and resilience for a long time, since their origin is related to the human action of indigenous peoples Pre-Columbian ancestors, and even where they have been used over time have not lost their fertility.

The overall objective of the Terra Preta program is to contribute to the improvement of subsistence of farmers living in the Amazon, through information on the sustainable use and conservation of Terra Preta and the creation of similar soils. (Embrapa)
